John Frederick Palmer
In all my work I seek to impart not only a representational image but also emotion, reaction and a sense of place. Painting and drawing are means of communication, arts that can be used to create work. My favourite media are watercolour, often with pencil line, and acrylics. My watercolour washes are fast and loose, complementing an interpretative pencil line. I like to use acrylics as I do oils, to produce bold, colourful work. All of my life I have always been an artist, and I have never had any other occupation. On leaving school in Bristol I attended the West of England School of Art and then worked for many years as a Designer and Illustrator. I was elected Academician, Royal West of England Academy in 1991. |
