BARBARA MUNNS My paintings celebrate the contrasts of surface and texture that are often found in naturally eroded surfaces, both in natural and man-made environments. I have used an abstract design based format to bring together a collection of these elements to explore, develop and enjoy my fascination of how surfaces show the passing of time. I also have an interest in the way damaged frescoes and icons deteriorate and the way that you get layer upon layer of image. How the edges of the fragments become very important, as they reveal all the workings and films of pigment that have been laid down. The edges of the elements in my paintings are prominent, as, they are in the fragments. Colour is important in my work as it conveys the intrinsic feeling and mood of the piece.
